How to take a picture with the webcam and upload it to a remote server

1. Prerequisites

The following procedure explains how to take some snapshots and upload them to a remote server whenever PREDATOR displays the Password Dialog.

Configure your webcam, following the procedure How to take a picture with the webcam when PREDATOR detects an intrusion

Once you have checked that your webcam configuration is correct, proceed to next step.

2. Open the Network options tab in the Preferences window

You must configure some settings in the "FTP" frame:

FTP server

The name of the FTP server PREDATOR will connect to. You'll find it in your ISP's support website.

User

Your FTP user name.

Password

Your FTP password.

Remote directory

The directory in your FTP home where PREDATOR will upload the picture files. Leave this input field empty to upload the pictures in your home directory.

Restart PREDATOR after changing any Network settings.

3. Open the Alarm options tab in the Preferences window

You will configure some settings in the "Commands" frame:

Event

Select the "Password" event in the drop-down list

Action

Select the "Default" action in the drop-down list

Custom action

Select the "Ftp snapshot" action in the drop-down list

Close the Preferences window with the "OK" button in order to commit your changes.

4. Test your configuration

Reopen the Alarm options tab in the Preferences window.

Select the "Password" event in the drop-down list

Click the "Run command" button and check the contents of the remote ftp folder: you should find the new picture file(s) there.

Next time PREDATOR will display the Password Dialog, it will take the snapshot(s) and upload them to your ftp server.
