THE PASSKEY CONCEPT
Passkeys are used during software installation in environments where many usb flash drives must be registered.
Usually, in order to register a flash drive as a new PREDATOR key, you open the Preferences window and follow this procedure.
But if you have 50 computers and 100 employees, each employee having a flash drive and being allowed to use any of the 50 PCs, then you should perform 5000 registrations !
Passkeys will save you many hours of work.
When passkeys are enabled on a computer, any unregistered USB flash drive which has been initialized as a passkey will automatically register as a new PREDATOR key.
A passkey needs to be initialized only once. You can then use it in any number of computers.
CREATING PASSKEYS
Run the Key Manager to initialize passkeys.
ENABLING PASSKEYS ON YOUR COMPUTERS
- Exit PREDATOR and run the PREDATOR Administration tool.
- Choose a password and enter it in the "Passkey ID" field. Passkeys will be accepted by a computer only if their IDs match this password.
- Enter the ending date of the automatic registration period in the "End date" field. After this date, passkeys will no longer be accepted.
- Click the "Update" button
- Close the PREDATOR Administration tool
- Restart PREDATOR
USING PASSKEYS
- Distribute them to your users. They will use them to unlock the computer(s) they are working with.
As soon as they insert their passkey, it will be automatically registered and their session will unlock. - Once a passkey has been automatically registered in a computer, it becomes a regular key for this machine.
However, you can still use it to automatically register in another computer, as long as the passkey's ID matches the other computer's ID.
TERMINATING THE AUTOMATIC REGISTRATIONS
After the date defined in the "End date" field of the PREDATOR Administration tool, passkeys will no longer register automatically, and PREDATOR will accept registered keys only.
But you can prematurely terminate the automatic registration period if all required keys are registered before this date.
